Just what is Elektrafone? Frankly, we don’t really know … no, just kidding.
Elektrafone is a neutral camp located in Zone 5 at the base of the ridge. If you take the secondary highway off of Route Gauno that got lost under a rockslide ages ago, it’ll basically dead end within a stones throw of the camp. The entire camp is modeled off of the bedouin tribes as far as their approach to living arrangements and hospitality go. There are no solid buildings here, most of the living quarters are tents that are made to give and move with harsh winds and driving sands. There is a feeling of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” here and because of that, they do live in a more scaled back manner than most but that’s not to say they’re roughing it or without any kind of amenities.
There is a main structure that is a hodgepodge of reclaimed debris such as billboards, storage units, trucks, cars and even a few bits of a plane here or there. The tent like structure unifies it. Inside there is a bar, there’s a stage and a back area that houses a surprisingly impressive medical zone. Elektrafone is proud to have a fully qualified former ER doctor as a part of their family and the medical services are offered to BLI, Killjoy and neutral alike with payment/compensation discussed after matters have been settled. Sound nice? Oh, it is, but it gets better.
Before the Wars, the majority of the family were performers. This drive and desire continued on even into the desert which means there are performances and live music on a daily basis, on special and seemingly random occasions, there are full on performances where they’ll use the generators for lights and amplified sound.
There are rules to visiting Elektrafone and they’re crucial.
They have evolved and been added to over time, like the goats. There are goats! They have a holding area with seven (currently) goats in them in the hopes that they could handle raising livestock in the desert. This means they have the luxury of fresh dairy unlike most of the desert.
Elektrafone is a neutral camp, they believe their land is neutral land. They have played host to BLI and Killjoy alike and have friends on either side. The camp and land is a place where grudges need to be dropped for however long the visit might last. They do operate under a larger scale of the law, finding ways to actually pay for their supplies and bring them in through honest channels instead of relying solely on bartering and trading. They do participate in trades and have long since established several trade routes and drop points.
That’s more or less what Elektrafone is.
Elektrafone is run by a self-made family. In actuality, only two are related and that’s by marriage (fourteen years in November). They are, however, long term friends from before the Wars.
There are the Founding Fathers (Satori and Sidecar Tommy) and Mama Matron (The Black Dahlia). They’re the basic backbone of the family and their answers are regarded as the final decision when it comes to Elektrafone as a whole. Satori and Dahlia are the happy couple of thirteen years.
Now let’s meet the rest of the family!
Pixie - long term friend and touring performing with the Founding Fathers and Mama Matron. She did agree to go to the desert with the idea of fleeing from a draft. Since then the world has gone to a new level of shit and returning seems improbable. She wants to find her actual family again but they were outside of Battery City.
Maelstrom - mechanic extraordinaire! He was the genius behind their vehicles when they were creating a sustainable road show and he’s the genius behind wiring up most of Elektrafone for their occasional full power evenings.
Dr. Ladylove - former ER doctor. She had lost her child and her husband to the horrors of the war and was having difficulties coping with the losses and seeing more death each and every day, powerless to make a difference. She was offered the chance to come along with the family and she took the chance to be with her friends.
Lapis Lazereye - she might be familiar to those from the city. She was part of a public campaign to show that the city cared about citizens that were casualties of the war. When she was caught in an attack, it cost her an eye and BLI replaced it for her with their latest cybernetic model. When she realized it could and did record what she was seeing, she felt betrayed and actually left the city with Ladylove. She now wears an eye patch at all times, if a stranger asks, she claims it is lost.
Blood-n-Gutstoyevski (Blood-n-Guts) - former boxer and bouncer, he would play security at performances for the different dancers in the family. When they left, he felt the obligation to protect them against the unknown. He’s the imposing giant of a man that protects the family and the camp, usually seen with green paint smeared across his face.
Jackal Hammer - technological wonderchild. Present him something mechanical or electrical and he can figure it out before the end of the day. Between him and Maelstrom, there are few things they cannot fix or figure out.
Death Ray Devil - stone cold bitch. She served in the war as a sharp shooter but when her company started to take joy in their duty and hurting others, she abandoned her post. She believes in honor and serving properly. She rarely speaks.
Diogenes Thorn - smarmy bastard. He was an expert in the city on behavior and body language, he was paid to sit back and study other people, pick them apart and then give a report on every little thing about them. He managed to piss off the wrong people when he started to do the same to his coworkers and his superiors, so when he was fired, he sweet talked his way into joining in with the family. He still does his job but with the patrons at Elektrafone.
Copperhead - fighter and stealthy. He prides himself on being able to slip about beyond the normal spectrum. He protects Elektrafone at the perimeter and will occasionally join them on runs into more hostile locations. He is, in fact, quite sweet and soft spoken.
Occasionally, Snakecharmer joins the family but she is considered an equal part of the family. They refuse to expand it, they had more to begin with but some have been lost to returning to the City or to more horrific ends.
